The Philippines According to Foreigners Who Get it Right

For all the Philippines economic and supposed stability problems, a significant number of expats have made this country their home. You’ve got Mong Palatino writing about the South Korean invasion, and the Martins’ Live in the Philippines! blog.

Great stuff, this LiP, because Bob, Feyma, et al. write about their experiences of… what else? Living in the Philippines!

While this may sound unremarkable to home-based Filipinos (living in the Philippines is nothing new to us after all), LiP provides a valuable service for foreigners considering the Philippines as their new home. As well as advice to expats already living here. They cover practicalities such as settling finances before making the move, to culture-related quirks such as the infamous “Filipino time” and the language barrier. It’s through them I found this interesting video profile of Cebu:

Think of LiP as the converse of My Expat Confessions. One blog showcases foreigners’ views of the Philippines, while the other shows how a Filipina sees a foreign country.

Here’s to blogging about the Philippines—and for seeing it the way many of us do. A country that has its share of problems yet retains a certain charm that attracts people from all over the world.
