Britney Spears and the Philippines

Piece of Me, one of Britney Spears’ latest singles, starts with the following lyrics:

I’m Miss American Dream since I was 17
Don’t matter if I step on the scene
Or sneak away to the Philippines
They still gon put pictures of my derrière in the magazine
You want a piece of me?
You want a piece of me…

Either the song’s writers (they, along with record producers, are the unsung heroes of the music industry) consider the Philippines such a remote place, or merely a place where the excesses of Western paparazzi are unheard of. What do you think, dear readers?

Sasha :

Maybe Britney dreams of seeing the Philippines. We do have Amanpulo for them celebrities. ;)

Rico :

Speaking of which, Eugene featured Amanpulo on Vista Pinas last year :)

deuts :

it seems to me just simply forcing the rhyme. :)

Rico :

Yeah, I find writers who think scene and Philippines rhymes

Rico :

Yeah, I find writers who think scene and Philippines rhymes weird.

mai mai :

ummm alot of recording artists use philippines. either because they’ve been there, becuse it’s on the other side of the north americas or for rymthic pusposes.
and FYI PHILIPPINES is being used to rhyme with MAGAZINES not scenes.

Rico :

I bow to your better knowledge of Britney Spears songs

duh?? :

look at the lyrics before complainin…. blah blah

carlito :

just wanna say–MAI MAI–youse a geenyous!

I heard the song was written by Billy Crawford-and wanted to get-the Philippines in there somehow.

Jimmy :

Philippines is the one most beautiful countries in Asia. The beaches are exotics and untouched so no wonder it was chosen by Britney’s Piece Of Me…You can rent an island, no one will bother you! More power to you Britney. You need a break and go to the Philippines. You can find peace and get your needed piece of the Philippine Island. No paparazi there haunting you!

Mick :

I heard the song and the word Philippines fits well with the rhyme scheme. Oh Billy Crawford was not the writer of the song. The writers for Piece of me are Christian Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg, Klas and Åhlund

antwon :

The Philippines is where you “shrink away to” when you’re washed up in the West. That is the true meaning behind these lyrics.

Eugene :

Speaking of Philippines, it seems the country is the new “Abu Dhabi” of Garfield fame.

Watch this video: http://www.cracked.com/article_15825_internet-party-what-happens-when-googles-parents-leave-town-for-weekend.html which anthrophormizes websites. Ebay is talking about sending money to the Philippines via Paypal and asking Mapquest where it is.

Eugene :

See this humorous video about a bunch of websites personified. http://www.cracked.com/article_15825_internet-party-what-happens-when-googles-parents-leave-town-for-weekend.html

In the video, Ebay is talking about sending money to the Philippines with the help of Paypal and asking Mapquest where the Philippines is.

sabi nila its just a rhyme… well! think of it… songs do really need to have a rhyme… pero in rhyming chose the best, i mean… if ur a writer… ang daming pwedeng mag rhyme sa magazine,,, bakit Philippines pa! Diba?
another one, if u want to get the attention of the World… choose the Philippines,,, dba, tayong Pinoy,,, kalat na sa buong mundo….
Just mension the word Philippines on media,,, boom ka agad!!! and the reaction…..
u know…. there are countries that are not known…. parang ganito un,,, what country is that, not familiar…. but the Philippines…. kilalang kilala…..
about the Pikon part or the KSP daw….. the right term for that is Palaban, We Pinoys have pride, ayaw nating naaapi….
U know “dont mess with us”.
The best country tlaga ang Pinas…. in other countries,,, work work work…. they work day and night… sa Pinas, may time ka para mag saya…
about the government, Im not affected….
masyado lang nagrereact ung iba…. sige magrali ng magrali kyo… basta dto lang ako, il do my work, live my peaceful life…
about d people….. mababait tayo,,, ang mga pinoy,,, totoo tayo, pero di lahat ha,,, sa ibang bayong ng prutas laging may ilang bulok…. pero tayo talaga ang pinakamababait….
Pinoy Ako!!!

Rico :

Grabe Daver, gagawin kong post ‘tong comment mo! :)

Daver :

Kuya Rico, post po saan?

Archie :

Philippines is actually a status symbol. It’s uncharted to tasteless artists who only brag about St Tropez and Dubai. Oh please. St Tropez is overrated. Dubai is just a fascade of a really ugly society. Philippines is THE MOST beautiful spot to go on vacation. Walang sinabi ang US Virgin Island or Caribbean. I’ve been to the Caribbean, panget ng buhangin. Anyone who looks down at the Philippines is ignorant and has no idea. Get out of your ignorant box and fly to the Philippines to see what Britney Spears was talking about. Hell yeah, she’s been there.
