If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is gazillions. At least, di siya nagpapatalo!
Have you ever noticed that, thanks to our infatuation with English, we insist on answering western beauty pageant questions without the help of translator? Even if we are fluent, wouldn’t our beautiful women gain a huge advantage if they had the time to think of the answer while the question is translated into Filipino? (or Bicolano, Cebuano, etc.)
Thanks to Alvin!

Ang totoong nakakahiya rito ay ang judges. Nasaan ang mga utak nila?
Well, medyo lang kwenta nga ung tanong. “Shallow” ika nga…
Ok fine nagkamali nga sya sa pag iingles nya marami naman dyan nagkakamali sa english even me. Pero my GOLLY! mali na nga english nya hindi nya pa nasagot ng tama ang tanong. okay lang kung mali mali grammar nya basta nandun yung thought ng sagot. diba parang walang kalalim lalim yung sagot nya (siguro dahil 17 lang). dapat hindi question and answer ang itawag dun kundi QUESTION and QUESTIONABLE ANSWER! pero in fairness naman to her hindi naman yata questionable ang pagkatao nya at beauty queen material talaga, kailangan lang siguro mas marami pang experience sa buhay para maging mallim ng konti

chaka xa! un lang. hehe
Oo nga. Janina babes, magdala ka ng interpreter… bongga ka… you’ll be the first Filipina candidate to bring an interpreter. Then choose an interpreter na bonga din. I’m sure magkakandarapa sila na mag-volunteer kc may international publicity yan. Payag kaya si Pres. GMA (I’m sorry…) o si Jun Lozada. Run-away winner might be Mirriam Defensor Santiago. Bongga!
i wonder why the judges voted for her. that’s sad. i could understand if the judges were like joseph estrada or jimmy santos.
Ask bakit walang lalim? Kilalanin nyo muna yung tao and her family. You will surprise to find out driver ang tatay nya. You should credit her beauty and tapang to join the contest. Pilipino ako and i’m proud to one.
Did anyone catch what Bb. Pilipinas-International said? When she was talking about Mother Theresa, she said “We should do her” and corrected herself later on. Hahaha! I guess with Janina’s answer, that’s forgettable.
Lol, I’ve been trying to look for the video of that!
seriously…
this is the philippines, right? so, it would have been fine if the questions and the answers were in Tagalog/Filipino.
the weird thing in all of this is that she never answered the question directly.
man, what is happening to this country? first, the hello garci thing, then there’s the ZTE deal and now this???
bakit siya nanalo? Have you people forgotten that she won two major categories (swimsuit and long gown), Q&A is only 10%. DO THE MATH.
And besides, international pageants could care less in the Q&A portion, Miss Japan made a senseless answer and yet she won miss universe. She won because she dazzled the crowd with her samurai sword, poise and the way she carry herself. Give Janina a break!
Tama ka Forsaken! Pero I think our contestants should bring the complete package to international competitions. Remember what happened to Miriam Quiambao? In any case, Janina San Miguel can either get a translator (hehe) or start hosting shows. My dad said that our pageant contestants should do TV shows, so that they can get used to speaking extemporaneously.
I’ve been working with people of different nationalities, and I can forgive if they speak terrible English as long as I can understand it, and there is some sense in what they’re saying. But Janina is different, if she cannot answer a simple question sensibly, then how can she answer tougher questions in the international competition. That is, if she’s not eliminated early on.
If she is dumb, I don’t know what should we call the judges.
Isn’t beauty the primary criterion for judging in beauty pageants?!
Huwag naman nating pagtawanan ‘yung bata. She tried her best. Ikaw nga ang tumayo at rumampa d’un nang naka-high heels at sumagot ng isang tanong right off the bat? Kayanin mo kaya?
Does her shortcoming make her any less of a person? Naman! Kaya walang asenso ang Pilipinas eh. Dapa na nga, tinatadyakan pa. Tsk, tsk.
