Featuring Luis Cruz of LightChasers Photography

It has taken a while, but we keep our word over here. So when Luis answered our riddle correctly, he won a feature on this blog.

LightChasers Photography’s blog may be a blog because it powered by Wordpress, but it looks more like a news site. Luis has thoughtfully separated his content for easy perusal by fellow photographers, featuring gear roundups and a few helpful tips. Best yet, you get to see his better visual work via a Flash-powered photo gallery.

But wait, to quote that famous copywriter, there’s more! A genuinely worthy read is Luis’ house rules, which I think serves as a great guide for any blogger seeking to write some guidelines for their eagerly commenting readers. We may be writing this as a promise, but Luis shows that he definitely deserves a healthy dose of link lovin’.

Some Unsolicited Advice for Philippine Nurse

A few days ago, Marcelo Tecson shared over email his blog dedicated to helping out nursing students. A very relevant niche for Filipinos. There’s increasing demand for healthcare workers in the west, as their respective populations age, and nursing schools and courses are springing up all over to help students take advantage of this opportunity. Anecdotal success stories, such as a Filipina nurse successfully making a good living in London, only serve to increase interest in the profession.

Introducing Pinay Expat My Expat Confessions

my-expat-confessions-launch.gif

We’ve decided to rebrand Pinay Expat, relaunching it as My Expat Confessions.

Just like pinayexpat.com, My Expat Confessions will also be edited by Melissa Ann-Petri, one of this network’s partners. This time around however, there will no longer be any confusion with pinayexpat.net, her personal blog.

My Expat Confessions will also feature more focus than its predecessor, aside from “just” chronicling the life of a Filipina (Melissa) living away from her beloved motherland, it will also offer more practical advice:

…the spotlight will not be on me but on how life is for a Filipina (that would still be me, though) abroad…I will blog in detail about how I found work abroad. Perhaps, that could give some of you some ideas, should you be interested to spend a part of your life working elsewhere.

Subscribe to My Expat Confessions today, and you’ll see how it is living in a foreign land. And how to make it enough to give immigration naysayers cause to complain.

Hot on the fashionable heels of Style Manila and Kikay Kit’s launches is the debut of Style Cebu.

No, we’re not turning into a fashion and beauty blog network (though the Philippines is full of beauty). But we couldn’t pass up the chance to let Kristine Roa write about the trendy atmosphere of Cebu City, a Philippine metropolis second only to Manila, and nearby locales. Witness her coverage of some local big names and events, as well as her giddyness over sales and fashion tips.

Subscribe to Style Cebu today and you’ll always know about what Cebuano’s are wearing, Cebuano designers, and anything else that’s happening in Cebu Province’s fashion industry. Here’s to fashionably holding the fort down south Kristine!

Introducing Kikay Kits

kikaykitslaunch.gif

Say hello to Kikay Kits ladies and gentlemen!

As Sophie Uy, the editor of the blog, says: “Kikay Kits is the home for everyone who wants to look good, and feel good about themselves! Here, we strive to be always beautiful—anytime , anywhere, inside, and out!” Sophie will bring in her experience built from writing for beauty-oriented blogs like beautynomics.com. Welcome aboard Sophie!

The word Kikay has no exact English equivalent. Mix girly, chic, and even vanity, and you still won’t capture the term’s essence. Maybe this will help: Filipinas call that small bag where they keep their beauty stuff (make-up, lip gloss, facial wipes, etc.) their Kikay Kit.

Subscribe to Kikay Kits, and you’ll get regular updates on product reviews, advice, and even gadgets! All in the name of making yourself look and feel good. Here’s to your belief that everyone can be beautiful Sophie!

Check out our sidebar RSS feeds: Style Manila is officially online!

Style Manila will cover Manila fashion, which is “rich in flavour.” Aside from writing in obviously British-inspired English, editor Sasha (one of the BBN’s partners) will bring in her experience writing for b5media’s fashion blog Tops 2 Bottoms, and bring that veteran outlook to the local scene.

See how a pretty dress makes a pretty girl even prettier. Or witness the beginnings of The Crocs™ Project. You can even window shop virtually.

Subscribe to Style Manila now, and get regular updates on how Manileñas (and sometimes Manileños) are using clothes to express themselves. Here’s to your articulate sense of style Sasha!

Introducing Vista Pinas

Say hello to Eugene Alvin Villar (better known as vaes9) and to Vista Pinas! Vista Pinas is actually Tanawing Pinoy 2.0.

Vista Pinas is where Eugene indulges his addiction for maps, making use of Google Maps and Google Earth to create a totally different way of looking at the Philippines and its landmarks. Like that beach resort only for the rich and famous. Or one of our many old churches. And Filipino places around the world.

Better yet, there’s also an embedded map full of markers that represent the locations covered in this blog. Clicking on a maker leads you to the location’s post. You also have a random gallery, and access to the KML file (Keyhole Markup Language) for use in Google Earth and similar programs. How’s that for interactivity?

Subscribe to Vista Pinas to take a tour of the Philippines and other Filipino places from the comfort of your home. Here’s to your technical expertise and creative application Eugene!

Pinoy Travel Blog: A Blog Profile

Metro Manila may be an interesting place, but the Philippines isn’t all about the capital. You have a hot-air balloon event, festivals, and beautiful locales, just to name a few. The Pinoy Travel Blog has all that and more. Like info on how to score plane tickets for only Php 99.00 ($2).

There’s simply so much to cover that this is a group blog, made up of traveling Filipinos with the words (and the photography skills!) to capture their interesting sojourns for posterity. Something like that.

Here’s to the beauty of the Philippines!
